This page describes the functions included in this static website. It has no visitor accounts, contact form, payment processing, advertising pixels or analytics scripts.

Choosing a language

Opening the language-neutral entry page at matthias-lang.org/ makes a browser request to IPWHOIS. This third-party service receives the visitor's IP address as part of the connection and returns a success value and country code. The website uses this result only to choose the initial edition. Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland are directed to German; other or unknown countries use English. Country is only an approximate language signal, especially in multilingual countries.

The request sends no credentials and suppresses the referrer. The website does not store the returned IP address or country code. The third party handles the network request under its own policies; see IPWHOIS privacy information. If the service fails or does not respond within five seconds, the entry page opens English.

Choosing DE or EN saves the value in this browser's local storage under ml-language. The saved choice takes priority on future visits to the entry page. It can be removed through the browser's site-data settings. Explicit German and English page addresses stay in their selected language and do not trigger this lookup. If local storage is unavailable, the language link still works but its preference may not persist.

Search and page requests

Article search and filtering run within the browser; the website does not send typed search terms to a search service. A search included in the page URL can be stored in browser history and may be included in ordinary hosting logs. Page and image requests necessarily reach the hosting provider, which may record connection details such as IP address, requested path and time according to its configuration. This static package does not set that provider's retention period.

Email and external links

The contact link opens an email application. If you send a message, its contents and sender details pass through the email services involved. Do not send sensitive files that are unnecessary for your question. External documentation links take you to other websites with their own privacy practices.
